Screen Printing

The Art and Design N6 students doing Graphic Processes as a subject did a screen printing ICASS project with the concept: My Travel Journal- Route to and from College. Personal stories bring a narrative element into design, a description of events, feelings and thoughts which link people over a period in time.

The central idea of this project was to lead students to locate themselves in their present and then to work with a self-renewal aspect of interpretation to create an ability to reach beyond self-imposed boundaries of learning and development.

By realising things that occur within and around us, we are forced to see them in a different light. Discovering how one thinks and feels is establishing one's unique identity and producing creative and original work is one way of doing this.

With the travel journal project, students were trying to find out how their external environments directly affect them in their day to day being. To be able to respond to the world we live in and to appreciate a value system with a response to purpose-driven design, we need to engage with our sense of being in the world first. The teaching strategy was to evoke individual responses from students and to guide students to become self-confident in a personified way.

The ottomans were a cost-effective product to create with their Travel Journal screen printed fabric. As the N6s enter into the industry, they needed to be equipped with the knowledge of creating repeat patterns for the manufacturing of functional artefacts.
